Measuring & Accuracy

Details, details, details. The devil is in the details.

Mrs. Collins endeavors to be as accurate in her bespoke stationery specifications as possible. Employing a super-accurate instrument called a Schaedler Ruler.

Mrs. Collins employs a very accurate and old-fashioned measuring device for detail. Every 1/16″ matters. Schaedler Precision Rulers.

In the photograph below, Mrs. Collins was busily checking the inch-width of a 6 point wide rule (5/64”) so she could tell the border how wide to make the width on a new bordering job. The top measures pica and point sizes. The bottom measures inches and metric. This particular brand of precision measuring tool is no longer produced but Mrs. Collins has two sets in her studio. The rulers are semi-opaque and so flexible they can wrap around a bottle or cylinder for the circumference.

Below is the finished piece, the product of all that granular measuring and specification. The particular measuring exercise (top two images) were performed recently for a brand new commission that will be posted shortly, just as soon as it is delivered!

As a reminder, almost all of our work is done by hand. Only some of the engraving presses are semi-automated. Each stationery sheet is fed into the arcane press one at a time, by hand. Thus, we endeavor to specify measurements, even colors, as accurately as possible.
